Come and see how denim fabric becomes those famous 501 jeans. Begin with a summary of how cotton is made into denim cloth. Then, visit one of the largest Levi Strauss manufacturing plants in the United States. You will see denim unloaded, patterns prepared by a plotting machine, and three tons of denim "floated" by air to a table where it is cut (30-120 plies at a time) by saw or computer. Pieces are then distributed to the sewing floor, where they are assembled and finished by machinery and skilled workers. Each step in the production line is narrated as you watch the procedures. A short quiz concludes this field trip. Study guide included.
