This booklet presents the design and operating concept of common rail systems and documents how this fuel injection system has evolved since its market launch in 1997. It also describes in detail the main components of the common rail system. The heart of the system is the injector, of which there are two types: the solenoid valve injector and the new piezo-inline injector introduced in 2004.
